VOLUNTEERS

All members of our charity organisation are volunteers and dedicate themselves, and their spare time, to fundraise and run the AFBVC. Members are a mixture of serving personal, veterans and civilians who are keen to support veterans who are in need.

You don't need to own a motorbike to be part of the group, we are aware that many biker enthusiasts can no longer ride due to injuries or other reasons, we have a number of supporters and pillion members.
Our members can be recognised by the wearing of a front or side-patch which states they are Armed Forces Bikers Veterans Charity.

We are not associated in any way to any political/religious party, coalition, other motorcycle club or organisation. Our members will at not display a back patch, motorcycle club supporters, or coalition patches whilst wearing AFBVC patches.

What the AFBVC means to me:

Armed Forces Bikers Veterans Charity (AFBVC) has given me a fantastic network of Service and non-service friendships across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, which I thought I had lost leaving the service. Helping other veterans and their families gives me a great sense of pride. In our region we are known as the Eagles and welcome anyone who would like to be part of our larger family focusing on helping our veterans and their families.

What the AFBVC means to me:

I like to help people and if I can give a few hours to help a fellow veteran, I will.

Rideouts, breakfast meets, fundraising and social events are great for the mental health - plenty of banter.

What the AFBVC means to me:

Being part of the AFBVC means I can support many who just need either a quick helping hand getting back on their feet financially or just a chat with someone who sympathises and understands the struggles faced by serving members, veterans and their dependants in the world we live in currently.

Sometimes it’s just a friendly ear that makes the difference!

What the AFBVC means to me:

The AFBVC to me is a way of connecting with other like minded people and the bond that only comes from having served. It also means a lot to help those veterans and anyone really who can benefit from the help our charity provides.

What the AFBVC means to me:

Family. I was still serving when I joined the AFBVC and was made redundant from the forces the AFBVC helped me so much kept me on track even in my darkest hour. I don't know where I would have been with out them.

What the AFBVC means to me:

I was invited to join the AFBVC in the summer of 2023. Initially, I was part of the Cornish region, and two things stood out to me. First, the group's sense of humour, banter and camaraderie as they met and rode together as a group.  Second, and equally important, was their involvement to raising funds for veterans in need of support. Due to personal circumstances, I am now a National Rider, which allows me to continue supporting the charity wherever I can.

What the AFBVC means to me:

Having been a service child during the 1960’s/70’s and enjoying the life style and opportunity that came with it, giving up a little time to help raise awareness and some funds for this  fantastic charity just seems a natural thing to do. Add in the shared passion for all things motorbikes then what better charitable organisation can there be to try to make a difference to those that may need a little help.

Name: Andy "Parker"

Area: The Wreckers (Region 14)

Patched member since: 2021

Link to the forces: Ex Army (1979-1985)

What the AFBVC means to me:

I joined the AFBVC because I wanted to help people like myself that are a very proud collective that nine times out of ten will not ask for help but coming from people that are like minded will accept help. I feel that the AFBVC does fantastic work as a brotherhood and can really make a difference to our fellow comrades that fall on hard times. I was recruited by Paul (Wolfie) Power who was then the Devon area rep which I will be forever grateful for, the band of brothers and sisters we have is absolutely amazing they all go that extra mile to give help to those military veterans that need our help. I stepped up to the plate in January 2025 as Devon Area Rep and will always do my very best to go forward and carry on the fantastic work done by my predecessor and friend Paul (Wolfie) Power.

What the AFB means to me:

Like being let out of a cage! In everyday life you are always expected to wear a mask in one sense or another but my AFBVC family have no expectations of me which means I get to let loose and be me. Most of you have seen it come out, dancing on the tables(badly) taking the micky and enjoying having the micky taken out of me. I also met the love of my life whilst at The Boyos Bash in Wales, January Reese xx Some might see it as a lot of commitment. I see it as fun, adventure and comradery with the added benefit of raising money for the people that mean so much to us, our Veterans.

Name: Sandra "Minstix"

Area: Saxon Horde (Region 13)

Patched Member since: June 2024

Link to the forces: Ex WRAC

What the AFB means to me:

I found AFBVC quite by accident, I worked with Persephone many years ago and met her for at the local Veterans hub, we went out one afternoon for a coffee and a natter, she invited me along next meeting of the Horde and that was that. Within The Horde I have found a local family that we (me and my husband) have chosen for ourselves.

I find the banter engaging (it keeps me sharp in my silver years). The support my husband and I need is always there, often before we realise we need it. A year or so ago I hit a patch of wobbly mental health, quite a crisis point really.

My Horde family was instrumental is supporting me and my husband and after help from Walking With The Wounded life is easier, not every day is the best day but I’m here being the best I can be.

I am a crafter and my way of raising funds is making ‘stuff’ and attending craft fairs with Persephone and Concreta (amongst others). We aim to raise funds and lift peoples spirits.

Name: Gary "Fudge"

Patched Member since: 2019

What the AFB means to me:

The AFBVC means a lot to me as a huge network of ex forces and civilian supportive network, a Big family of caring people giving there time to support our Veterans and their dependants when they need us the most.

It is great to have that sense of belonging to something which means so much to me.

I am also excited to see what the future holds with new younger volunteers who can continue to promote the AFBVC in the future and continue to help support our veterans
